How to Apply & Check Status Online for Driving License (Free)

To drive any type of vehicle, it is very important to have a driving license. Driving a motor vehicle without a license is considered illegal. That is why any person who is above eighteen (18) years of age is eligible to apply for a driving license and upon obtaining the license, they get the right to drive. License is an essential document as well as a means of identification.

The Government of India has greatly simplified the process of applying online for a driving license in the digital age. Now you can apply for driving license online using the internet sitting at home. Earlier, getting a driving license took a lot of time as you had to go to the Regional Transport Office (RTO) or deal with brokers who charged you money for their services. This process involved both money and time.

But now you can complete this process sitting at your home. We present you the detailed method to apply for driving license online in this article. Let us first understand the essential documents that you will need to apply for a driving license.

Required Documents to Apply for Driving License Online

  1. Aadhaar Card
  2. Birth Certificate / 10th-grade Marksheet / PAN Card
  3. Passport-sized photographs

How to Apply Online for a Driving License :-

  • Step 1 :- Open the browser in your Phone, Tablet or Laptop & Visit the official website parivahan.gov.in/parivahan
  • Step 2 :- Go to “Online Services” section and select “Driving License Related Service” Option.
  • Step 3 :- After this a new page will open on your screen where you select your state and click on the “Continue” button.
  • Step 4:- On the next screen you have to click on the option “Apply for Learner’s License”.
  • Step 5 :- Follow the instructions on the next screen which include seven steps to apply online. To proceed, click the “Continue” button.
  • Step 6 :- On the next screen, choose your category (General, Ex-Servicemen, Handicapped) and then click “SUBMIT” button.
  • Step 7 :- On the Next screen, choose between “Via Aadhaar Authentication” and “Without Aadhaar Authentication”. As this is an online application, then click on the first option and continue.
  • Step 8 :- On the next screen, a short form will be opened on the Screen, in which you will have to enter your Aadhaar number. After entering the Aadhaar number, an OTP will be received on the respective mobile number. After entering that OTP, click on the “Authentication” button.
  • Step 9 :- After this, based on the information related to your Aadhaar card, a pre-filled form will appear on the second screen. After this click on the “Proceed” button.
  • Step 10 :- Confirm the details on the next screen. If everything is correct, click “OK” to proceed.
  • Step 11 :- After clicking on the “OK” button your application will be successfully submitted and you will be given an application number. Note down this number, and click on the “Next” button.
  • Step 12 :- After this you have to upload the required documents, like address proof and age proof (Mark sheet, PAN card, or Aadhaar Card photo). Make sure the file size is 500 KB or less and is a JPG or PDF file.
  • Step 13 :- If Required Upload your signature and photograph .Click on the “Upload and view files” option and then proceed to the next step.
  • Step 14 :- Select “Fees Payment” option and pay the respective fees. Once you complete the checkout process, click on the “Proceed to Payment” option.
  • Step 15 :- Enter the required bank information, accept the terms and conditions, and then select the “Proceed Payment” option.
  • Step 16 :- Use credit card, debit card, internet banking etc. to complete the payment.
  • Step 17 :- Once the payment is successful, click “Click Here to Print Receipt” to download the payment receipt by entering the captcha code.
  • Step 18 :- Save the receipt as a PDF on your device.
  • Step 19 :- Now there is no need for you to go to RTO office because your application is complete.
